HOW TO PAINT A PORTRAIT: STEP 7
Overpainting
Add more Liquin Light Gel to the black paint to thin it out further and brush evenly over the mid tones. Thin it even more, then paint a final layer of very translucent, barely-black glaze over the lightest areas to help to unify the image.
Now is the time to add any small finishing touches – the blue in the eyes, a little extra colour on the lips. Leave the painting to dry for a full day. Your painting is now technically ‘finished’, though, to unite the texture of the painting and bring out the richness of the colour, I like to add a layer of varnish.
