Underpaint the Highlights

When the mid-tones are dry, mix some white acrylic quite thinly and add thin layers of highlight where they appear on the image. For very bright whites or very specific highlights (usually found at any place where there is light reflection), just mix in some extra white or paint directly from the tube.
